Xiaomi knows when it is on to a good thing and their latest addition to the line, dubbed the Mi 9T Pro revamps their highly popular Mi 9T workhorse phone by dialling the hardware to 11.

The Mi 9T Pro for Malaysia is a spitting image for the current workhorse Mi 9T available in the market though it has several subtle and important upgrades under the hood.

The biggest enhancement of course is that the Mi 9T Pro comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 octacore processor, currently the most powerful chip to emerge from Qualcomm’s chip foundries. The Snapdragon 855 is paired with 6GB RAM and either 64GB or 128GB of non-expandable storage with the former retailing at RM1,599 and the latter at RM1,799.

Another important upgrade unique to the Mi 9T Pro is that it has enhanced heat dispersal capabilities. Rather than the single layer of graphene that the Mi 9T has, the Mi 9T Pro has a whopping 8 layers of them to dissipate heat from the processor in a more efficient fashion.

While the battery size remains identical between the Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro, the latter has improved fast 27W fast charging versus the Mi 9T’s 18W fast charge for the 4,000mAh battery. You get an 18W charger bundled with the Mi 9T Pro though so if you want to take advantage of the 27W fast charge you’ll need to purchase a compatible charger separately.

The Mi 9T Pro also has a similar triple camera array on the rear of the phone which consists of 48-MP primary camera, a secondary 13-MP camera and a third 8-MP camera with 2x optical zoom but upgrades the 48-MP primary camera sensor from a Sony IMX582 to a Sony IMX586 for enhanced performance.

These tweaks aside, the Mi 9T Pro is externally similar with an identical 6.39-inch FHD+ AMOLED display a 20-MP pop-up selfie camera, a USB Type C port at the base of the phone, a mono speaker plonked next to the USB port and an under-display fingerprint reader.

How much is the Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro?

According to Xiaomi Malaysia, the Mi 9T Pro with 6GB RAM/64GB storage will retail for RM 1,599 while the better specced Mi 9T Pro with 6GB RAM/128GB storage will retail for RM1,799.

The phone is slated to be available on Shopee and Lazada as well as authorised Mi Stores from 30th August 2019 with your choice of four colours – Carbon Black, Flame Red, Glacier Blue and a new shade of Pearl White. The Mi 9T Pro in Pearl White is only available for the 6GB RAM/64GB variant and only at authorised Mi Stores.
