The new bespoke Huawei Mate 9 Porsche costs a whopping RM6500

If you think the mainstream Huawei Mate 9 phone that was launched recently in Munich, Germany is something a bit too pedestrian for your tastes and you’re looking for something a bit more, how shall we say, ostentatious, well you’re in luck as Huawei has an even more powerful, and sexier looking variant of the Mate 9 for those with deep pockets.

Made in conjunction with the Porsche Design team, the Porsche Design Mate 9 phone comes with a similar Kirin 960 processor along with a similarly revamped EMUI 5.0 and 4,000mAh battery with SuperCharge tech as well as their second gen dual-lens Leica camera akin to the mainstream Mate 9.

The primary difference in hardware is that it comes with 6GB RAM: 2GB more than the stock variant and an impressive 256GB of onboard storage over the stock version’s 64GB storage. Rather than a 5.9-inch 1080P flat display, the Porsche Design Mate 9 instead comes with a smaller but more vibrant and sharper 5.5-inch curved 2,540 x 1,440 pixel resolution display.

Externally, the phone comes with a matte black finish embellished with the Porsche Design monogram on the rear along with a logo on the front. It’s certainly a step up from a stock Mate 9 though the specifications that matter – the processor and rear camera – are identical. The price though may give all but the richest pause. At launch, it’s priced at €1395 which works out to RM6,500 in Malaysian Ringgit. The supply of these phones will be limited globally. There’s no official word on a release date or if it will make it to Malaysia’s shores but we’ll keep you posted.
