The Division Heartland closed test footage leaks – shows interesting battle royale mechanics and PvE Expedition mode

At its official announcement a few days ago, Ubisoft announced The Division Heartland but didn’t mention much beyond the title save that it is a free to play experience. Now, intrepid leaker @skyleax on Twitter has revealed a sealed video describing what Heartland is about. Here’s details of The Division Heartland closed test footage leak.

The video itself will likely be taken down but it features pre-recorded footage and is likely to act as a briefing video for selected playtesters who have signed a nondisclosure agreement.

The leaked Division Heartland video has Taylor Epperly, the Lead Game Designer from Red Storm Entertainment briefing playtesters on the confidential nature of the test and what Heartland has to offer.

In this free to play open world survival action shooter, we move from the big cities to a small town American city called Silver Creek. You’ll come to know Silver Creek and its mysterious story through a co-op PvE mode called Expedition,” says Taylor over a montage of gameplay footage.

Then, once prepared you’ll hop into a 45 player PvPvE called Storm. Both modes will have you scavenging, exploring, looting, fighting and surviving all while avoiding the most aggressive and unpredictable virus contamination that the Division has ever seen,” she sums up before mentioning the confidential nature of the test and the necessity of feedback to tweak the gameplay for best results before it launches.

It’s likely no surprise that the game is attempting to cash in on the battle royale phenomenon and hopping onto the bandwagon in the wake of massive cash cows like Warzone and PUBG.

Storm mode will likely feature existing creeps on the map, if the designation of it being PvPvE is any indication with loot all across the map that you’ll have to salvage and pick up as the playable area gets smaller and smaller before culminating into a ‘last team’ standing outcome.

Expedition Mode seems like a campaign mode of sorts but it’s all up in the air for now as there’s no official word and things can change in development. We’ll keep you posted once we hear any other leaks or updates. The Division Heartland is slated for launch on the Playstation, Xbox and PC sometime in 2021-2022. You can sign up for it here.
