Sonos Roam portable smart speaker redefines premium sound ; coming to Malaysia priced at RM1,099

Appreciated by audiophiles for their high quality wireless speakers, Sonos is looking to take their traditional dominance in home theatre systems outdoors. Literally so as they’ve just officially announced their new Sonos Roam portable smart speakers that will be coming to Malaysia in April 2021.

The Sonos Roam is remarkably sophisticated as portable speakers go with a rounded semi-triangular casing with rounded end caps which offers up IP67 water and dust resistance for practical usage outdoors whether it’s at a mamak session or a camping trip to the sticks..

Seeing its intended usage as a portable speaker, the Sonos Roam is surprisingly light as portable speakers go with a form factor smaller than the Sonos Move. It’s compact enough to toss into a backpack for a day out and light enough that it won’t max out your hand carry limit at 430g.

Belying its size, it has substantial hardware with two Class-H amplifiers, a racetrack mid-woofer and a tweeter along with a sufficiently large battery to offer 10 hours of battery life. Charging the Sonos Roam is via a USB-C port or via an optional Qi-charging pedestal.

Connectivity on the Sonos Roam is superb with WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0 baked in as well as support for Apple AirPlay 2 as well as Alexa and Google Assistant. The Sonos Roam also features what the brand calls Automatic Trueplay where it will automatically optimise acoustic performance for best results when you’re streaming music.

Of note is that the Sonos Roam is remarkably intelligent as speakers go. When you’re paired up with your home WiFi network and take it out on the go, it intelligently pairs up to your mobile device via Bluetooth without direct intervention. It also has a unique Sound Swap feature baked in where it can swap music playback to the nearest Sonos speaker so you can keep it going when you move from room to room and can  pair up with another Roam for stereo sound.

Sonos Roam Price in Malaysia

The Sonos Roam will be available in Malaysia priced at RM1,099 in Lunar White and Shadow Black with the charging pedestal priced at RM239 sold separately from 21st April onwards. You can acquire it at www.trysonos.my as well as at Harvey Norman and online at the official Sonos store on Lazada
