SevenFriday and Micah’s Voice – Building a Foundation of Hope with Time – an interview with Shawn Stockman of BoysIIMen and SevenFriday founder Daniel Niederer

The SevenFriday T1/02 Micah’s Voice Special Edition timepiece has just been launched across the globe and is available for preorder in Malaysia courtesy of Red Army Watches Malaysia.

Created in collaboration with the Micah’s Voice charity founded by Shawn Stockman of BoyzIIMen fame, the SevenFriday T1/02 Micah’s Voice Special Edition is a highly collectible timepiece as only 100 examples exist.

We managed to talk to both Daniel Niederer, the founder of SevenFriday as well as Shawn Stockman and discover their thoughts and hopes behind the SevenFriday T1/02 Micah’s Voice Special Edition and the Micah’s Voice charity. For more details about the timepiece, check out our prior feature SevenFriday T1/02 Micah’s Voice Special Edition here.

What is Micah’s Voice and what does it do?

Micah’s Voice is a charity in the United States dedicated to helping those who are dealing with autism to help live happier and better lives and we can’t do it without your help. The name of the charity is from my son Micah who has just turned 18 and who has autism.

Unlike other more direct health conditions with tangible outcomes, autism is not directly obvious and is something they have to live with for the rest of their lives. It is often a very daunting task to explain what autism is and the fact that there are different levels to the condition that doctors call the autistic spectrum.

At the mild level, you wouldn’t even know a person with autism has it but at the severest levels people aren’t able to take care of themselves.  A small smile can make a big difference which is what inspired the logo of our foundation, a yellow smiley and Dan and me both hope that the SevenFriday T1/02 Micah’s Voice Special Edition and the accompanying Rilee plushie can help put a smile on everyone’s face

How did the close collaboration between Micah’s Voice and SevenFriday come about between you and Dan?

Shawn: Over a phone call and a couple of bottles of wine. I have always been a fan of SevenFriday watches and I had one of my people reach out to Dan Niderer several years ago when he was in Los Angeles doing a presentation and they graciously responded that they were going to be in Vegas on the weekend.

It turned out that me and the guys have a residency in Las Vegas and we met for the first time at our show. We talked, we gained a rapport and Dan proposed making a timepiece for our foundation. He created 100 exclusive pieces for our first collaboration in 2016 along with a guitar that I played. This first collaboration timepiece sold out very quickly and it helped to jumpstart our foundation.

This time around we upped the ante to make it cooler and make it something that people will be enthusiastic about with the new SevenFriday T1/02 Micah’s Voice Special Edition.

Dan: As a brand, we want to partner up with people who we know and where we know the money is going to make a difference. So that we can help to give back and make a difference. This collaboration with Micah’s Voice is how we can make a difference in this world.

What do you both like most about the new SevenFriday T1/02 Micah’s Voice Special Edition timepiece?

Shawn: The new SevenFriday T1/02 Micah’s Voice Special Edition matches my personality. It’s one of those timepieces that when you look down on your wrist and you see that yellow smile, not only will you feel proud to own one, you will also feel good that you have helped someone other than yourself. Dan and my love for watches have no end and as a watch collector for 20 years, one part of having a watch is showing it off to the world as an aspect of your style and personality.

The SevenFriday T1/02 Micah’s Voice Special Edition isn’t just any watch. When you show it off, you can say – yeah, I just helped a family – no, disrespect.

In this case, it’s even better because it’s helping people and helping people that you don’t even know and creating a better life for another human being by just wearing the watch. More importantly, owning the SevenFriday T1/02 Micah’s Voice Special Edition makes you part of an exclusive club. When everybody sees this watch, you know that you are part of a very special group.

Another thing I’m really proud of is that every SevenFriday T1/02 Micah’s Voice Special Edition will come with a Rilee teddy bear that features the Micah’s Voice logo on one foot and the SevenFriday logo on the other.

Will there be additional examples of the SevenFriday T1/02 Micah’s Voice Special Edition made if there is demand for it?

Dan: From the outset, we wanted to make the SevenFriday T1/02 Micah’s Voice Special Edition exclusive for our collaboration partners and fans. It’s not easy for our partners as well as no one makes money from it and we are all helping to make sure the proceeds arrive at Micah’s Voice.

This exclusivity also ensures collectors feel special and good about it too. There will be future collaborations but the SevenFriday T1/02 Micah’s Voice Special Edition will be capped at just 100 units globally.

What would you like to say to SevenFriday fans today?

Dan: Keep celebrating life and live it as much as you can. Be positive, be optimistic and keep moving forward which is what SevenFriday’s brand philosophy is all about.

Shawn: Life and time is precious, enjoy it while you have it and tell time with your new SevenFriday T1/02 Micah’s Voice Special Edition.
