Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 is one of their most impressive phones ever made with rear dual cameras, a HDR-ready display and their Bixby assistant though it also costs a hefty chunk of cash at RM3,999. If you literally and metaphorically lack pockets that deep but still want a taste of what the Note 8 is offering, well, you’re in luck as Samsung has just rolled out the midrange Galaxy J7+ that culls quite a few interesting features from the larger Note 8 but pares the price down to RM1,599.

The Galaxy J7+ comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display up front and interestingly,  a MediaTek Helio P20 octacore 2.39GHz processor running Android Nougat 7.1.1 with 4GB RAM and a reasonable 32GB of storage that can be beefed up via a hybrid SIM card slot that supports up to 256GB microSD cards.

The rear dual camera is the most interesting feature on the J7+ as it offers selectable bokeh when taking snaps. The rear camera array pairs up a 13-MP sensor with an F/1.7 aperture and a secondary 5-MP sensor that has an F/1.9 lens. The primary camera does most of the grunt work while the secondary camera captures depth detail with the ability to dial in the level of bokeh in a shot as needed. Initial test shots with the phone served up some very promising results when taking the usual food snaps with some pretty convincing defocus effects. Up front, the phone comes with a 16-MP camera with an F/1.9 aperture paired with a dedicated LED flash for selfies.

While the phone lacks the ability to take voice commands, it does have the Bixby home screen that pushes contents and important calendar dates to you as needed. It also has a similar Dual Messenger option that lets you simultaneously run two social media accounts from the same provider at the same time so you’re able to run around with two Facebook messenger or two Whatsapp accounts if you so desire. Power is provided by a 3,000mAh battery and the phone is charged via a micro USB port.

The Galaxy J7+ comes in your choice of black or gold and if you snag it from now till 20 October 2017, you can get quite a few interesting deals off their mySamsung loyalty app such as a 20% discount off food and drinks at the Triple Shot Bed & Coffee and more, depending on which part of Malaysia you call home.Samsung’s new midrange Galaxy J7+ offers rear dual cameras and more 8
