Samsung will reportedly unveil Galaxy Note9 on August 9

The Samsung Galaxy Note series phablets are best known as the industry trailblazer for large-format smartphones as well as one of the few that made a built-in stylus a practical addition to a phone. Their most recent offering in the Note series, the Galaxy Note8 embodied all these traits as well as a superb camera and impressive hardware to boot. Now, according to Bloomberg, Samsung will be unveiling their next successor to the Note series, purportedly dubbed the Galaxy Note9

Bloomberg reported that the Galaxy Note9, if following Samsung’s current naming conventions for Galaxy series devices, will be unveiled at an ‘Unpacked’ event in New York on August 9 2018 with the device being released as early as the end of August though plans can still shift at this point in time. This puts the purported global debut of the Note9 two weeks earlier than its immediate predecessor the Note8 in 2017.

Last year, the Galaxy Note 8 was also launched in New York with a similarly themed grand Unpacked event though it took place sometime near the end of August 2017 with the release date slightly later.

Details are still scarce as to what the Galaxy Note9 will have to offer in terms of features or design, though it will include an “upgraded processor” from Qualcomm for some markets and an “upgraded camera”. Traditionally, Galaxy Note devices destined for the Malaysia market use Samsung’s in-house Exynos processors, typically from the same generation as that year’s Galaxy S-series phone. For 2018, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ that were launched earlier this year use the new Exynos 9810 processor. We’ll keep you posted if anything interesting appears on the grapevine.
