Samsung Smart Community Centre advances RPS Legap, Sungai Siput community to the future

As part of their inspirational vision to ‘Inspire the World, Create the Future’, Samsung has always strived to inspire and contribute positively to underprivileged communities by empowering them through Samsung’s extensive leadership position in innovative technologies and solutions.

Under the aegis of their Love & Care campaign, Samsung Malaysia Electronics officially launched the new Samsung Community Centre in the rural community of RPS Legap located in Sungai Siput, Perak. Established as a collaborative effort between Jabatan Kemajuan Orang Asli (JAKOA), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), the Samsung Community Centre seeks to enable and empower the local orang asli community to participate in an increasingly digitally connected world.

Established to benefit the some 4,700 members of the community, the Samsung Community Centre hosts the latest technologies from the company. Located within the expansive, comfortably appointed facility are a host of Samsung tablets preinstalled with educational software provided by UKM, a huge 65-inch UHD Smart TV, an array of 24-inch LED monitors, a refrigerator and vacuum cleaner too. The facility is also air conditioned to ensure a comfortable learning environment.

As the world is becoming more technologically advanced, digital platforms have become vital for enhanced learning experiences. Connecting with communities is always at the heart of Samsung, and that is why we are constantly looking for ways to help those in need. Through this Smart Community Centre, we believe that residents of this community have been given a gateway to bridge the gap between them and the mainstream society,” said Yoonsoo Kim, President of Samsung Malaysia Electronics.

 

The meaningful ceremony was also graced by was YAB Tuan Ahmad Faizal bin Dato’ Haji Azumu, Chief Minister of Perak. “Congratulations to the parties in stepping up to make a difference in people’s lives. Thanks to this initiative, the residents of RPS Legap will now receive digital education which will drive their ambitions and inspire them to achieve more. Let’s continue to support the national agenda in using ICT towards achieving a knowledge-based nation, and do our part for our community towards a better Malaysia,” he said.
