Samsung releases specifications of new Galaxy A3, A5 and A7 (2017) series phones
While the launch of their latest incarnation of their Galaxy A-series phones has been teased for some time along with a recent leak of the Malaysia launch of the Galaxy A5 and A7, few details have surfaced regarding the exact specifications of the phones. Until now.
Ahead of the local Malaysia launch that will happen on 5 January and the preorders which will commence nationwide on 6 January, the specifications of the new Galaxy A series phones have been announced. The phones will come internationally in three different variants: the A3, the A5 and A7 that differ slightly in terms of screen size and storage. The A3 will not be coming to the Malaysia market at launch though the other two will be ready for the aforementioned local preorders soon. This doesn’t rule out the arrival of the A3 later on though.
The Galaxy A series for 2017 refreshes the line-up with a unibody aluminium frame that is IP68 water and dust resistant, USB Type-C connectors paired with fast charging support, an ‘Always On’ display pioneered on the Galaxy S7 Edge and front/rear 16-MP cameras, both of which pack an F/1.9 aperture. Another useful improvement is the use of the display as a flash when taking selfies.
The phones all also pack fingerprint readers and Samsung Pay support which is gradually rolling out in Malaysia. The trend of Samsung issuing features usually seen on their flagship-class phones down to their workhorse phones is a welcome one and the Galaxy A series phones look like they offer quite a bit of bang for the buck.

The exact specifications of each of the three new Galaxy A series phones are below and barring something out of the ordinary, the local versions of the Galaxy A5 and A7 should have similar specs to the global announcement.
