Open source innovator Red Hat today announced a host of interesting developments during the KL leg of their Red Hat Forum 2017. Themed ‘The Impact of the Individual’, the Forum had a common focus on Digital Transformation and the Open Source Way. “Technology is an opportunity and also a disruptor for businesses, markets and governments because of the way technology can be applied into new business and operational models,” said Damien Wong, Vice President and General Manager for Red Hat, ASEAN as he shared recent developments with Red Hat with invited guests and stakeholders.

During the briefing, Damien shared the results of a survey they conducted with their customers which say them sharing what were the top three topics of concern within their organisations. More than half were concerned with developing a cloud strategy at 52%. Next up 42% of customers were concerned with a means to build and deploy new apps in a rapid fashion. The third highest matter of concern is that 39% were concerned with optimising and modernising their existing IT assets. The key impetus to resolve these concerns is the implementation of a solution that is agile, practical and open source, which is exactly what Red Hat’s solutions are about as he shared more about recent developments with the brand.

During the briefing, Damien also took the opportunity to share Red Hat’s latest step in bringing their open source solutions in an effective fashion to the Asia Pacific region as they have just established the Singapore branch of their Open Source Innovation Labs. The Singapore branch joins their two current existing labs in London and Boston. The Red Hat Open Source Innovation Labs are innovation hothouses that pair up customers and Red Hat technical experts to rapidly build new software or to modernise existing business applications, allowing customers to develop applications with speed, agility, scalability and enhanced security. Teams are created and paired up together over a period of four to twelve weeks in a residency style engagement with the final results showcased in a presentation to key stakeholders. Should customers not be able to participate in Singapore, Red Hat is also able to deploy pop-up virtual labs offsite at a client’s office as needed.
