OPPO’s recent F-series phones like the OPPO F9 as well as their unique Find X slider camphone have been dominating the limelight though they aren’t resting on their laurels as their latest OPPO R17 Pro will be officially arriving in Malaysia in a matter of days.
The OPPO R17 Pro has a 6.4-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel with a tiny teardrop shaped notch up top and super slim bezels all around to give it an impressive 91.5% screen-to-body ratio. Of note is that the phone has a under-glass fingerprint reader, which lends the whole affair a seamless looking aesthetic, helped in part also to its fetching gradient finish that comes in a bluish purple shade dubbed Radiant Mist as well as a newly announced limited edition finish dubbed Emerald Green.
Under the hood, it runs Android Oreo 8.1 on a Snapdragon 710 octacore processor and has 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage.
What makes the R17 Pro unique is its rear triple camera array which is potentially the world’s first triple camera with a variable aperture lens. This setup is built around a primary 12-MP camera which can change from F/1.5 to F/2.4 as needed depending on ambient lighting conditions. It also has a secondary depth sensor as well as a 20-MP F/2.6 camera.
Added to this impressive setup is optical image stabilisation (OIS), which helps to tackle juddering when taking videos and snaps. Of note is its Ultra Night Mode that aims to offer beautifully lit, low light shots. Up front, it has a 25-MP selfie shooter to tackle all the usual self-portraiture work.
Keeping the whole affair powered is a 3,700mAh battery juiced via a USB Type-C port which supports OPPO’s proprietary SuperVOOC charging tech that can charge it from dead zero to 40% charge in just ten minutes. There’s no word on official pricing yet but when the OPPO R17 Pro launched in China, it was about CNY 4,300 which works out to about just under RM2,600 with change. Stay tuned as we’ll be there at its official launch this Thursday 22 November!
