As a supplement to the global ECI report, the Malaysia supplement shares more on cloud deployment and planning trends in Malaysia after interviewing IT professionals in Malaysia in comparison to the Asia Pacific region and abroad.

The key findings of the report show a fundamental change across the board in the wake of the pandemic. In the supplemental report, 58% of Malaysia respondents reported that they increased their investment in private cloud beyond the global average (37%) and their peers in APJ countries (44%) along with an increase in public cloud infrastructure. 67% of Malaysian respondents had increased public cloud usage and 51% increased hybrid cloud usage.

Among the other findings was that Malaysian reponsdents ran more hybrid clouds than average with 14% penetration with an intent to grow to 57% penetration within 5 years and that 96% of Malaysia respondents identified hybrid cloud as the ideal infrastructure for their companies which is substantially more than in APJ (90%) and globally (87%).

Other key findings are the fact the pandemic has prompted IT to be viewed with greater strategic importance with 88% of respondents and 67% of Malaysian respondents said they’ve increased investments in public cloud, 58% said they’ve upped their stake in private cloud and 51% said they’ve upped their ante in hybrid cloud investments.
