Nixplay’s Seed digital picture frame draws your snaps from the cloud

While consumer tech like smartphones, cameras and tellies have grown by leaps and bounds, the age-old photo frame and it’s successor the digital photo frame haven’t changed much over millennia. Tech outfit Nixplay however have managed to offer a new take on the venerable concept with their Seed range of wireless digital photo frames.

The Nixplay Seed comes in a variety of sizes – 7-inches, 8-inches and a larger 10-inch size – and are primarily digital photo frames that let you do all the usual you’d expect of a photo frame with a game-changing twist: they’re wireless and hooked up to the cloud.

The Seed is able to display photos from a host of online cloud storage or social services including Instagram and Facebook and users can also create custom playlists of pics too.

What this means is that you can give dear old grandma up on the east coast a Seed frame and rather than having to drive all the way up every time, you can simply update the Seed via the magic of the cloud to show her your latest snaps. There’s also an app as well for Android and iOS that lets you pipe up to ten shots at a time from your phone to the frame with captions too. Regardless of size, each Seed frame has 8GB of onboard memory to store snaps which translates to around 20,000 or so photos.

The 7-inch Seed frame has a 1,024 x 600 pixel resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio while it’s larger 8-inch and 10-inch siblings have HD resolution at 1,024 x 768 pixels and a 4:3 aspect ratio. The Seed frames all have motion sensors that switch the frame on when they detect people and turn themselves off when there is none to save on juice, making them rather energy efficient.

The Nixplay seed is now available locally in all three sizes with the 7-inch seed retailing for RM579, the 8-inch retailing for RM749 and the 10-inch variant retailing for RM839 inclusive of GST in a variety of different colours. If you’re keen to check them out, the Nixplay Seed is currently sold at Urban Republic stores at Midvalley Megamall, Gurney Plaza and Queensbay mall as well as online at 11Street, Shoppu, Lazada and Shashinki. For more details on the Nixplay Seed swing by website of the official distributor in Malaysia – Howard Technologies here.
