Meizu’s new Pro 6 Plus and M5 Note smartphones land in Malaysia for RM1,999 and RM849

One of China’s most popular phone brands has just landed in Malaysia with the official launch of their premium Pro 6 Plus phablet and midrange M5 Note. Of note on the new phones is their Flyme user interface overlaid on Android that is built around a unique array of gestures and a single home button with different functionality depending on how you press it. A gentle tap returns to the previous screen while pressing the button down gets you to the home screen. Swiping the touchscreen on a Meizu phone running Flyme from the lower left to the upper right gets you to a menu screen of opened apps. Depending on which apps you have onscreen, a hard press triggers haptic feedback and opens up a set of alternative menus. It offers a learning curve but it’s an interesting take on an Android UI overlay.
