Malaysians still want to download versus streaming music says Limelight Networks report

According to global digital content delivery provider Limelight Networks ‘State of Digital Lifestyles’ report, Malaysians still have a predilection to download the music they want to listen to versus streaming content online.

The ‘State of Digital Lifestyles’ report, which covers 5,000 consumers in France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, the United Kingdom and United States who downloaded software or streamed online video within the last calendar month. The comprehensive report offered several interesting findings for Malaysia.

The report was presented by Jaheer Abbas, Senior Sales Director SEA and India of Limelight Networks who showcased key facts to the media. Out of the countries in the report, users in Malaysia enjoyed the highest number of users who download music versus streaming it at 53.4% of Malaysians versus 44.1% who prefer streaming it online. Music is the preferred content accessed online by Malaysians followed by movies/TV shows and apps. Malaysians also seem to prefer downloading games with 53.4% preferring to do so versus 43.5% who prefer playing it online.

Of particular interest is that Malaysians vastly prefer reading e-books at 74.7% versus 25.4% who prefer plain-old hardcopy. Another interesting factoid is that Malaysians also seem to be the least likely out of the polled populations to actually pay for content.

“Consumers have become increasingly dependent on digital technology in both their personal and professional lives for information, entertainment, and to simplify everyday tasks.
