Lenovo launches Phab 2 series smartphones in Malaysia

Lenovo kicked the week off with the launch of three Phab 2 series smartphones, each angled at a different price point. The Phab 2 is a sub RM1K phone with all of Lenovo’s latest aesthetic and design refinements while the Phab 2 Plus is a midrange  workhorse that is  just over the RM1K mark. The Phab 2 Pro is the crown jewel of the current crop of Phab series that is also the world’s first Tango-enabled phone for AR applications and has the good looks and high-end hardware to match its asking price.

 Phab 2 Pro
The king of the hill is Lenovo’s Phab 2 Pro that comes with the best hardware of all compared to its siblings and most importantly, is the world’s first consumer device with Google’s Tango support for VR gaming and location based applications.

The Phab 2 Pro’s 6.4-inch IPS display offers 2K resolution, runs a snappy Qualcomm Snapdraogn 652 processor paired with an Adreno 510 GPU, 4GB RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. Like the other Phab series phones, the Phab 2 Pro has a hybrid SIM that lets you bung in either two nano SIM cards or one microSD card and one Nano SIM. The rear 16-MP camera comes tricked out with PDAF and the aforementioned depth and motion tracking Tango sensors. The front comes with an 8-MP selfie camera with an F/2.2 aperture and 1.44µm Big Pixels.

 

Phab 2
The entry level phablet of the current range comes with a 6.4-inch 720p display, runs Android Marshmallow 6.0 on a MediaTek MTK8735 quadcore processor paired with a Mali T720GPU, 3GB RAM and 32GB of expandable storage via a hybrid SIM/microSD card slot. The rear camera has a 13-MP sensor with phase detection autofocus while the front 5-MP selfie camera has an 85-degree wide angle lens. All this is crammed into a 9.6mm thin casing that weighs 225g. A 4,050mAh battery offers quite a bit of longevity in the field though it uses a microUSB port. Other notable mod-cons include a noise-cancelling mike with Dolby Atmos tech.

Phab 2 Plus
The Phab 2 Plus is an upgunned variant of the Phab 2 with better hardware all around. The 6.4-inch display has been beefed up to 1080p resolution. The processor has been upgraded to a MediaTek MTK8783 octacore processor paired with a Mali-T720 GPU. Battery size, RAM and storage are similar at 4,050mAh (chargeable via a microUSB port), 3GB RAM and 32GB of expandable storage via a hybrid SIM card. The rear comes with dual 13-MP cameras with an F/2.0 aperture, 1.34 Big pixels, laser autofocus and Mibeaut ISP for sharper, crisper images. The front comes with an 8-MP camera with an F/2.2 aperture and 1.4µm Big Pixels. It is actually lighter than the Phab 2 as well at 218g with a similar thickness at 9.6mm.

The Lenovo Phab 2 Pro has Tango support for VR/AR style applications

The Lenovo Phab 2 will retail for RM899 , the Phab 2 Plus for RM1,299 while the Phab 2 Pro will retail for RM1,899.  All three phones will come i neither gray or gold. All of the Phab 2 series will come with a free clear case and is available from selected Lenovo Exclusive Stores and Lenovo Multi Brand stores from mid-December onwards.
