It’s a perpetual arms race by notebook vendors to make the next most powerful and slimmest gaming laptop to trump all others and in that regard Asus has fired a shot off the bow as they’ve just unleashed one of their most powerful and slimmest laptops ever dubbed the ROG Zephyrus S GX701GX in Malaysia.

First glimpsed at CES 2019, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX701GX is incredibly well equipped as far as gaming laptops go with almost everything on it dialled to eleven and crammed into a chassis that’s just 18.7mm thin. The massive 17.3-inch Full HD IPS display has incredibly slim 6.9mm bezels in order to cram in the display itself which has a 144Hz refresh rate, 3ms response time, NVIDIA G-SYNC or Optimus support as you so desire, 100% sRGB compliance and is Pantone validated to boot, making whatever colours you see onscreen faithful to real life. But wait, it gets better.

The full size keyboard has customisable lighting on a per key basis, with each button hosting an independent RGB LED. There’s even a touchpad that can turn into a numeric keypad if needed while ASUS’ Aura Sync tech lets you coordinate whatever coloured lightshow you want with other ROG hardware like the Gladius II Origin mouse.

Under the hood, the ROG Zephyrus S GX701GX comes with an Intel Core i7-8750H 2.2GHz processor, a whopping 24GB DDR4 2,666MHz RAM, a PCIe Gen3 x4 NVME 1 terabyte M.2 SSD, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q GPU with 8GB GDDR6 RAM. There’s some trade-offs of course as the slimness of the display means that they’ve reallocated the selfie camera into a separate optional camera module which works out even better for privacy concerns and for optimum angling during live Twitch streams.

All this gaming goodness doesn’t come cheap though and the ROG Zephyrus S GX701GX costs RM13,999 though Asus is throwing in a free ROG Backpack to tote it around in, an ROG Gladius II mouse and the aforementioned ROG GC21 external camera that’s worth a cool RM899 in and of itself.
