The only thing small about the new Huawei Y9 series phones are their price tags

Huawei is certainly getting into the spirit of Black Friday as they’re dishing out a bargain for their entry level Y9 series phones with the Y9 Prime 2019 getting an RM100 price cut down to RM799 and the Huawei Y9S getting a free Band 4 worth RM139 bundled with it for free starting 29 November 2019. Both bundles are currently available for the foreseeable future or while stocks last.

Huawei Y9 Prime 2019

The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is of recent vintage and comes with a 6.59-inch Fullview display with FHD+ resolution and 391ppi. Under the hood, the phone runs full fat Android 9.0 overlaid with their EMUI 9.0 on a Kirin 710F processor paired with 4GB RAM and 128GB of expandable storage.

On the imaging front, it has a 16-MP F/2.0 selfie camera mounted on a motorised pop-up mechanism to ensure that the front display gets as much screen real estate as possible. The rear consists of a triple camera array that has a primary 16-MP camera, an 8-MP ultrawide camera and a 2-MP depth sensor. Both front and rear cameras are capable of 1080P@30fps video capture. Powering it is a 4,000mAh battery via a Type-C port and in Malaysia, you can acquire the Y9 Prime in three colours – Midnight Black, Emerald Green or Sapphire Blue.

Huawei Y9S

The Huawei Y9S has somewhat similar dimensions with an identical 6.59-inch FHD+ FullView display and runs Android 9 overlaid with EMUI 9.1 out of the box on a similar Kirin 710F processor. Where it differs is that it has slightly more RAM : 6GB to be exact and a similar 128GB of expandable storage. The front camera is similarly specced as well with a 16-MP sensor on a motorised pop-up though the rear triple camera array is upgunned to a more powerful 48-MP primary snapper, a secondary 8-MP snappee and a 2-MP depth sensor. The battery itself is similarly sized as well at 4,000mAh and can be had in either Midnight Black or Breathing Crystal.

Both the Huawei Y9s and Y9 Prime can be acquired at all Huawei Experience stores, Huawei official retail stores and Huawei’s online stores nationwide. There’s a few extra steps to redeem the free Band 4 smartband of course when you buy the Y9S as you have to add in your details and redeem it via their AppGallery app but it’s well worth the trouble.
