Huawei’s cheapest 5G-capable smartphone the nova 7 SE 5G is here for RM1,499

Midrange phones are both an art and a science to design as you have to cram in as much value as possible while prioritising features that you’d enjoy on higher end smartphones in a more affordable form factor.

In that regard, Huawei’s new nova 7 SE may just hit that sweet spot as it culls features from their higher end smartphones like the new P40 series phones and has 5G capability too for just RM1,499.

Huawei nova 7 SE specifications and price

The nova 7 SE comes with quite a solid ensemble of hardware for the price of entry. For RM1,499, you’re getting a large 6.5-inch FullView display with 2,400 x 1080 pixel resolution and a tiny punch hole for a 16-MP selfie camera. The rear camera is a quad array that has a 64MP F/1.8 primary camera, a secondary 8MP with an ultra wide angle lens, a 2MP bokeh sensor and a 2MP macro camera for close-up work.

Powering the phone is a Kirin 820 5G processor which has, as you’d likely surmise, 5G connectivity to cover your bases when it rolls into Malaysia. This is paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage while a 4,000mAH battery that has 40W SuperCharge support along with a compatible charger in the box keeps it juice for quite awhile.

As with all Huawei phones of recent vintage, the nova 7 SE runs Huawei’s own EMUI user interface and uses their own AppGallery for sourcing applications. In Malaysia, it comes in your choice of Space Silver, Crush Green and Midsummer Purple.

Up front, the phone has a 32MP selfie camera. Keeping it powered is a 4,000mAh battery with 40W SuperCharge charging like the nova 7 SE. In China, the 128GB variant was priced at CNY2,999 (about RM1,800) while the 256GB variant was priced at CNY3,399 (about RM2,040) but we’ll keep you posted on details.
