There’s a ton of people out there who love taking selfies if Huawei’s latest selfie-centric camphone, the Huawei nove 4e is any indication. Their latest addition to the nova family of affordable phones aims to offer even better self portraits than its siblings and relies on a massive 32-MP f/2.0 front-facing camera to do so, the first time Huawei has mounted a camera that large up front.

The rest of the hardware on the nova 4e is on par with other midrange offerings. The 7.38mm thin chassis crams in a 6.15-inch FHD+ LTPS dewdrop display up front with a relatively crisp 415 ppi and an 84.1% screen-to-body ratio.

The hardware under the hood consists of a midrange Kirin 710 octacore processor running Android 9.0 Pie overlaid with their EMUI 9.0 user interface paired with a Mali-G72 GPU, 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage.

The rear consists of a triple camera array that integrates a 24-MP F/1.8 camera, an 8-MP F/2.2 wide angle camera and a 2-MP F/2.4 camera for depth data as well as a fingerprint reader perched in the upper quadrant of the phone. Both front and rear cameras have a host of AI-enhanced refinements that include an AI scene recognition mode for the rear camera that optimises settings for best results while the front has an AI beauty mode that intelligently beautifies selfies.

Other enhancements to the phone include Huawei’s GPU Turbo 2.0 for optimised frame rates and overall enhanced performance with less battery drain for selected games, an AI calorie counter that identifies what you eat and tells you how sinful it is and a video ringtone which plays a short clip depending on the caller.

Users who are more appreciative of better music will like the nova 4e’s Histen 5.0 tech that offers better virtual surround sound when listening to music via your headphones. Keeping it all powered is a 3,340mAh battery with 9V/2A quick charge support via the USB Type C port.

The nova 4e is slated to be available from 16 March 2019 onwards for RM1,199 in your choice of Midnight Black, Pearl White and Peacock Blue at all Huawei experience stores, authorised resellers such as Senheng, SenQ, Harvey Norman and Courts and the Huawei online store at
