Huawei successfully completes live tests of 800G optical transport trial

Huawei and China Mobile (Zhejiang) have successfully completed the first live trial of an 800G ultra-high speed optical transport network, paving the way towards the future with advanced services including 5G, big data and cloud computing. According to Omdia, network traffic in 2020 will be roughly triple that of 2019 at 4.3 million PB.

The live test was successfully conducted between two data centers in China that were 80km apart from each other and involved the use of Huawei’s 800G tunable ultra-high speed optical module. Huawei has also successfully completed another trial with Turkcell in Istanbul, Turkey between two data centres.

Launched earlier this year in February, the 800G tunable ultra-high-speed optical module was intended to help network operators tackle the bandwidth challenges of 5G networks. The 800G tunable optical module is capable of supporting up to 48Tbit/s per-fiber capacity and with the ability to support 1 million concurrent users with a whopping 6 times the capacity of traditional 100G networks.

The Huawei 800G tunable ultra-high-speed optical network also offers channel-matched shaping (CMS) technology, enabling it to optimise network transmission performance with 20% longer transmission distances. In context, these technologies are angled towards mobile network operators as well as concerns with significant use of big data and cloud technologies.

China Mobile (Zhejiang) has expressed significant interest in large-capacity transport technologies that include 800G optical transport tech as well as commitment to closer cooperation with Huawei to speed up the application of innovative technologies to cater to the growing need for more high-speed data traffic.

Simon Lu, President of Huawei’s Transmission Network Domain, said,”We are delighted to have completed the first operator-based 800G trial with China Mobile (Zhejiang). This is a milestone in the global commercial use of Huawei’s 800G solution. Huawei will continue investing in R&D to provide high-quality, reliable and evolvable solutions while helping China Mobile (Zhejiang) achieve greater business success.” For more details visit www.huawei.com
