The HTC U11+ is up for preorders in Malaysia at RM3,099

The new year is already here and with it comes the usual deluge of new phones from all the usual players in the game. Phone distributor Brightstar is hopping onto the bandwagon of new product launches ahead of Chinese New Year as they’ve just announced that they’ll be shipping in the HTC U11+ phablet to Malaysia.

HTC’s U11+ is their latest and most powerful phone yet and is built on the base of the earlier U11 by featuring a larger, crisper 18:9 aspect ratio 6-inch, Quad HD+ 2,880 x 1,440 pixel display in an IP68-rated water resistant chassis that’s heavier by 19g at 188g and is slightly thicker and chunkier all around. The battery powering the U11+ is larger as well with a rated 3,930mAh battery powering it while integrating fast charger support.


The rest of the hardware on the HTC U11+ is somewhat similar to its smaller sibling. You get the powerful Snapdragon 835 processor running Android Oreo 8.0 overlaid with their own slick user interface. Paired with this is a phenomenal amount of storage. For Malaysia, buyers are getting the higher end configuration that has 6GB RAM and a whopping 128GB of expandable storage.

The rear camera is a 12-MP UltraPixel 3 snapper integrated Dual Pixel tech, OIS and phase detection autofocus combined with an F/1.7 aperture while the front is an 8-MP selfie f/2.0 camera with HDR support.

The HTC U11+ also integrates their Boom Sound Hi-Fi edition stereo speakers for lush audio performance and they also throw in a free pair of active noise cancelling USonic headphones that jack in via the USB Type-C port at the base. Alas, traditionalists will have to live with the fact that the HTC U11+ lacks a 3.5mm jack but that’s a small price to pay for what it offers. Like its smaller U11 sibling, it also has ‘squeezable’ side buttons that can be assigned any number of functions at your whim.

You’d likely be wondering how much the HTC U11+ would cost with hardware like this but the retail price is as surprising as it is reasonable – it’s RM3,099 though you only get one choice of colour: Translucent Black. Brightstar Malaysia is conducting a special preorder programme with online etailer partners Lazada, 11street and Shopee  from 15 January to 21 January 2018 with buyers getting a massive array of freebies worth over RM250. The phone will then be available for sale at all authorised retailers and from Brightstar from 22 January onwards.
