HP OMEN 15 hero

If you’re on the lookout for a gaming laptop that’s both powerful and good looking, you’ll appreciate what the refreshed HP OMEN 15 gaming laptop has to offer. HP has also launched the more affordable Pavilion Gaming 15 gaming laptop that offers much of the same gaming experience at a lower price point.

The new incarnation of the HP OMEN 15 has a slightly smaller and slimmer footprint over its predecessor while retaining the distinctive OMEN diamond logo on the top lid. To wit, the new OMEN 15 for 2020 is 8% shorter while 11% thinner. Even with such trimmed dimensions, the laptop still retains a full sized keyboard inclusive of a numeric keypad too.

The hardware has been bumped up by quite a bit. You get a 15.6-inch Full HD display with a 300Hz refresh rate as well as NVIDIA G-Sync support. In order to cram in more screen real estate, they’ve shaved down the side and top bezels to offer a generous 80% screen-to-body ratio. If you’re well heeled, a 4K UHD AMOLED display does exist.

Under the hood, the HP OMEN 15 packs 10th Gen Intel CPUs with your choice of either an i5-10300H or i7-10750H H-series processors and up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER with Max-Q GPU. The laptop is able to cram in up to 32GB DDR4 2,933MHz RAM and has space for up to 2 512GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSDs with a Raid 0 configuration.

Connectivity options are comprehensive as well on the OMEN 15 with a Thunderbolt 3 USC_C port to pipe a feed to a connected display, a trip of USB-A ports, an Ethernet port, a mini display port, a HDMI 2.0 port and a headphone combo jack too. WiFi 6 AX and Bluetooth 5.0 come as standard.

To keep it all cool, HP has implemented their Tempest Cooling tech that features a redesigned, larger vent and a 12-blade cooling fan to allow for a higher thermal envelope and by extension, closer to desktop-level performance as you needn’t have to throttle the hardware to prevent it from cooking off. Battery life is rated for up to 12.5 hours tops on paper which is quite an achievement.
