Hearthstone expansion Kobolds & Catacombs is now live

Perhaps the oddest yet the most accessible offering in Blizzard’s current stable of games, Hearthstone is an online collectible card game that has you taking on other players one-on-one with a customised deck that consists of spells, characters and the like. It’s somewhat akin to Magic: The Gathering in that you have to purchase packs of cards with a random assortment of cards inside to add to your collection though all the cards in Hearthstone are virtual in nature. That said, even with a basic deck, you’re assured of an entertaining time though their latest expansion for Hearthstone, dubbed Kobolds & Catacombs looks set to up the ante by quite a bit in terms of entertainment value.

For the uninitiated, Hearthstone is thematically set in the World of Warcraft universe with this particular expansion pack offering 135 new cards combined with new game mechanics to make things more interesting. One of the newest game mechanics are cards with the Recruit keyword where you can summon grunts straight from your deck. Other additions to the game include a new Legendary weapon for each character class along with new Spellstones that offer more bonuses in a match the longer they stay in play. Kobolds & Catacombs’ new features aren’t just solely for competitive play. They also have a new single-player Dungeon Run mode that allows you to earn the “Candle King” card.

All character classes can acquire a Legendary weapon in Kobolds and Catacombs. Finding it is another matter entirely.

To get you started, Blizzard is offering a ton of free loot if you login. If you have not acquired the free Legendary Marin the Fox, you’ll get it the first time you’ll open a Kobolds & Catacombs card pack. Just for logging in during the launch period, you’ll also get three free Kobolds & Catacombs card packs too!
