What is Harmony OS 2 Beta

In a media event in Hong Kong today, Huawei shared details about the nova 9 and about the Harmony OS 2 beta which will offer a revamped user interface and what the Huawei calls a ‘Super Device’ tool that allows users to combine different devices from the Huawei ecosystem – smartphones, tablets, laptops, earbuds and all – into an easily controllable network accessible via a paired Huawei smartphone. From the ground up, Harmony OS also has a completely new microkernel for its operating system, which, on paper, makes it offer faster and more efficient performance.

This would be the first time that Huawei has pushed a working build of Harmony OS 2 to a smartphone which means that the new nova 9 that’s up for preorder in Malaysia would be the first recipient of their spanking new Harmony OS.

How to get the Harmony OS 2 beta for Huawei nova 9

For the time being, the only way you can get your hands on the new Harmony OS 2 beta is if you own a Huawei nova 9. The beta will be available as an optional upgrade this coming 15th November 2021 (Monday).

Huawei nova 9 owners in Malaysia can get access to the Harmony OS 2 beta by simply swapping their region to Hong Kong to white list the phone. Here’s a step by step process:

  • Update your nova 9 to the latest firmware and the latest My Huawei app version.
  • Inside the My Huawei app, swap your region to Hong Kong. To swap regions, go to Me (the rightmost icon on the bottom tab), and click Settings then select Country/Region
  • Afterwards, click on the Support icon (that’s the heart-shaped button in the middle), then press update button in the lower left (the red circle with the arrow)
  • You’re done! You can then swap the My Huawei app region back to Malaysia.
  • To swap back, go to Me tab(blue person icon), select Settings and then swap Country/Region back to Malaysia.

So, to reiterate – the update to is available from 15th November onwards AND you need, for now at least, a HUAWEI nova 9 to gain access to it.
