[Free Stuff] Visit a mutant-cyborg infested starship and ancient Persia for free

If you’re keen on scoring some free games and have a fetish for sci-fi survival horror and fiendishly difficult Errol Flynn-style platformers you’re in luck. In light of Ubisoft’s recent 30th anniversary, they’re offering a free game a month u stretching all the way to Christmas 2016. The first game that they have up for grabs is Prince of Persia: Sands of Time for the PC.

This vintage early 2000’s reboot of the classic platformer involves the eponymous Prince of Persia jumping gaping pits full of spikes, traps and swashbuckling with a host of nasties to save his kingdom. It was one of the better games of the era and spawned a host of sequels and saw a movie hitting the silver screen too. All you need to do to score it and six other games doled out over the next few months is to simply sign up for a free Uplay account on ubisoftclub.com.

The other interesting game up for grabs is on Good Old Games who are offering a DRM-free, free download of System Shock 2, one of the most terrifying shooters of its time that sees you taking on everyone’s favourite homicidal AI SHODAN along with a bunch of cybernetic horrors that will probably haunt your sleep for years to come on a starship in space.

This classic is best played with the lights turned down low and the volume maxed out. Beware the cyborg midwives and wear a pair of brown-hued pants for your playthrough. You’ll need it. Trust us. To get it, all you have to do is to download the GOG Galaxy client and set up a free account. Once you do you’ll get System Shock 2 added to your GOG account. There’s an elaborate minigame set up as well with regular check-ins to the site and purchases going towards unlocking one of three games with Spelunky being the first unlock. If you’re fairly patient it’s worth a look. As always, these games aren’t around forever so you’d best hustle.
