Epson aims to make owning and running a printer a significantly affordable affair and their latest two monochrome printers, the EcoTank MonoChrome M3170 and M1140 aim to fulfill that ideal with lower cost of ownership and printouts that clock into cents per page.

Both the Epson EcoTank MonoChrome M3170 and M1140 both use Epson’s patented PrecisionCore printhead that offers up print resolutions of 1,200 x 2,400 dpi and up to 20ipm print speeds.

Where they differ is that the M1140 has basic printing functionality while the larger and taller M3170 comes with a bit more features in the form of auto-duplex printing, scan, copy and fax functionality, Ethernet connectivity and an automatic document feeder as well as a host of printing options including printouts straight off a phone via the Epson iPrint app.
