Far Cry 5 is now free to play this weekend

It’s time to return to Hope County to raise some heck as Ubisoft is making Far Cry 5 free to play all the way until the weekend.

The base game which means the full single player campaign and all its lush splendour including its bizarre arcade mode are available for you to experience until sometime until 5AM on 1st June  in Malaysia.

far cry 5 free

This gives you about 72 or so hours of absolute mayhem in Hope County taking on the partially bonkers cult leader John Seed and his army of hygiene challenged, gun-toting lunatics. While it’s a stretch to finish it on the highest difficulty level, it’s very viable on normal and easy, assuming you down a couple of Red Bulls and forget about sleep for a night or two.

Far Cry 5
Don’t worry, he’s just taking a nap.

As it stands, I prefer the base game over its successor New Dawn on account of its saner looking, more scenic locales. Far Cry New Dawn is set in the same location after a nuclear apocalypse but has a truly off kilter neon pink landscape overrun with bougainvillea that looks garish after staring at it even after a couple of hours. And the Mad Max vibes from the salvaged weapons do no favours from the factory-fresh guns you get in Far Cry 5 as well.

You can refresh your memory on how both games play in our Far Cry 5 review and Far Cry 5 New Dawn review.

far cry 5 free
Best. Character. In. Far. Cry. 5. Who’s a good boy?

If you aren’t able to finish the game, fret not as progress will carry over if you buy the full game which is currently on special at the moment at a generous 75% off. You can also pick up the deluxe version, season pass and individual DLC for 50% off. For more details visit their official page here.

PUBG Mobile raises the chill factor with new Arctic Mode

PUBG Mobile, the granddaddy of the battle royale genre has just gotten an interesting update that adds survival elements over the usual concerns of not getting shot from rival players dubbed Arctic Mode.

PUBG Mobile arctic mode

The new Arctic Mode in PUBG Mobile is a free content update for the game that turns the usual map of Vikendi into an arctic wasteland with players having to also manage their own body temperatures by foraging for branches to build fires and – oddly enough – to hunt down wild chickens for eventual roasting and eating.

Seeing as everything is covered in snow, you’ll also find snowboards all over the place and the map will also add in remote recon drones. You can check out the new content update and download the game on the Apple App store and the Google Play store now.

Meet the shiny new Sony PlayStation 5 DualSense controller

A few weeks ago, Sony shared details about the hardware underneath the upcoming PlayStation 5 that’s due to release near the holiday season. Today, they’ve just revealed a firsthand look at what the PlayStation 5’s DualSense wireless controller will look like in official renders.

The aesthetics of the DualSense wireless controller are like something from Mass Impact with a clean white finish complemented by black trim and blue lighting in strategic spots. Button placement is faintly familiar to its predecessor the DualShock 4 but has multiple refinements based on customer feedback and the new generation of games that will grace the platform.

Sony PlayStation 5 DualSense loseup

The DualSense, befitting its name has haptic feedback and sports adaptive triggers in the L2 and R2 buttons and has a new ‘Create’ button with as yet unexplained functionality that replaces the old ‘Share’ button. Another addition is the inclusion of a built-in mic so you needn’t have to pack a separate headset to get a quick chat done though you’ll still look odd shouting into your controller.

Barring these details, the official post doesn’t elaborate more beyond that but this small glimpse of the DualSense controller is a likely hint as to the final design of the PlayStation 5 which may likely come in a similarly white finish with black trim. We’ll keep you posted on any developments as they occur.

Republic of Gamers reveals Strix SCAR 17 gaming laptop with 300Hz/3ms display and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 graphics

ROG Strix SCAR 17 angled

Even in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Asus is going in at full tilt with a slew of new models from their Republic of Gamers (ROG) line-up that include this rather princely beast of a gaming laptop dubbed the Strix SCAR 17.

Strix SCAR 17 front

While most would figure the designation SCAR to be related to some cosmetic mishap, it’s not. The term SCAR, as ROG would put, pays homage to the Fabrique Nationale Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifle aka the FN SCAR which has been adopted in limited numbers by the US military.

Homage aside, the ROG Strix SCAR 17, like its namesake, is a powerful and sturdy looking gaming rig that’s designed for intensive gaming and for e-sportsmen looking to gain an edge over the competition.

ROG Strix SCAR 17 Specifications

The hardware is suitably impressive with the ROG Strix SCAR 17 coming with a 17.3-inch Full HD display that has a blazing fast 300Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time. The hardware consists hasn’t been fully nailed down yet but can include up to a 10th generation Intel Core i9-10980HK processor and up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super graphics card.

ROG Strix SCAR 17

Seeing the beefy hardware on offer, the ROG Strix SCAR 17 also packs equally impressive cooling hardware too with four heatsinks versus the three seen in more conventional Strix gaming rigs along with an extended heat spreader and a whopping six heatpipes with the slight tradeoff of a 1.4mm increase in height to accommodate the more powerful cooling module.

The laptop also integrates an enhanced thermal conducting compound on the CPU versus the usual thermal paste in order to dissipate heat better and which will see use in other Asus laptops further down the line such as the ROG Strix G15 Electro Pink edition and the massive Zephyrus Duo 15.

Depending on region, you can get up to 32GB DDR4 RAM shoehorned into it along with the option for a pair of M.2 NVMe PCIE  3.0 SSDs in RAID 0 configuration with an additional bay for a storage SSD for a grand total of 3 SSDs.

ROG Strix SCAR 17 rear

Other mod-cons include a backlit per-key RGB backlit Chiclet style keyboard, WiFi 6 (Gig+) (802.11ax) support augmented by ROG’s RangeBoost tech for stronger signal strength, Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity and a rather nifty unique underglow light bar that wraps all around the base of the laptop that can be customisable in the ROG Aura Creator application bundled with the laptop.

There’s no word on price or local availability yet but we’ll keep you posted!
