ASUS ZenBook 13 UX325 and ZenBook 14 UX425 with super slim and light form factors coming to Malaysia!

ASUS has just revealed the new ZenBook 13 UX325 and ZenBook 14 UX425 that have been revamped in terms of form, function and performance with 10th Gen Intel Core processors along with a lighter, slimmer design than ever before.

asus zenbook 13 ux325 angled
For the last several years, the Asus ZenBook series has been their preeminent productivity notebooks that featured their lightest and slimmest form factors that has only recently been superseded by the ExpertBook B9 (B9450) but the new ZenBook 13 UX325 and ZenBook 13 UX425 look to give it a run for its money. Not only are they still one of the lightest and slimmest laptops available in the market, they’re arguably one of the rare few with full sized ports for easy connectivity.

The ZenBook 13 UX 325 and ZenBook 14 UX425 are both built to be ultra light and slim notebooks with the ZenBook 13 UX 325 being just 13.9mm thin and weighing just 1.07kg while packing a 13-inch FUll HD display. The ZenBook 14 UX425 has a similar thinness as the ZenBook 13 UX325 but is slightly heavier on account of the larger 14-inch 1080P display at 1.13kg. Both ZenBooks also boast of MIL-STD 810G ratings for drop proofing and protection. In terms of colour options, you get two this time around – Pine Grey and Lilac Mist.

Both laptops have a similar arrangement of ports with the right side packing a microSD card reader and a USB 3.2 Type A port while their left sides host a full sized HDMI port and two Thunderbolt 3 Type-C ports that allow you to charge the laptop too.

The interesting feature that ASUS has integrated here with the new ZenBooks is that they  not only support fast charging via the provided USB Type-C chargers but are able to take lower voltages, allowing you to charge the laptop off smartphone power banks which is a lifesaver when you’re away from a charging point. On paper, the notebooks are capable of up to18 hours of Full HD payback which is impressive indeed.

zenbook 13 ux325 ports

One thing the new ZenBooks lack though is a headphone jack but ASUS is bundling in a free 3.5mm-to-USB-Type-C dongle with every ZenBook to salve the pain. The keyboards are another interesting feature and include ASUS’ NumberPads- a numeric keypad underlay on the touchpad that effectively give you a full sized keyboard with either notebook.asus zenbook keypad
While exact hardware specifications haven’t been fully nailed down yet for Malaysia, the notebooks are quoted to come with up to an Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor with Intel Iris Plus graphics, up to 8GB DDR4 3,200MHz RAM and up to a 512GB SSD.

asus zenbook 14 ux425

The ZenBook 14 UX425 has however been released for sale in on the ASUS Singapore online store with two configurations – one with the Intel i5-1035G1 variant with a 512GB SSD and Intel UHD graphics costs SGD$1,398 (about RM4,300) . The more powerful version with an Intel Core i7-1065G7 CPU, 8GB RAM, Intel Iris Plus graphics and a 1TB SSD costs SGD1,698 which is about RM5,223. Once ASUS Malaysia has officially announced local specifications, we’ll let you know.

ROG Zephyrus G14 gaming laptop with AMD Ryzen 4000 CPUs is yours from RM4,499

ASUS has been knocking things out of the ball park recently with the release of their ultra light, high-performing business laptop dubbed the B9 in Malaysia and now their gaming-centric arm Republic of Gamers looks set to repeat that with their ROG Zephyrus G14 gaming laptop that the claim is the world’s most powerful 14-inch gaming laptop and it’s not an idle boast by any means.

Unveiled at CES 2020, the ROG Zephyrus G14 is an ultra-slim 14-inch gaming notebook that aims to redefine the concept of a gaming laptop. Back in the day, gaming laptops weighed as much as a pachyderm and were just as chunky with all the portability of a bank vault.

With recent refinements in chassis materials, processors and GPUs, Asus has managed to craft a high-performance gaming laptop in a chassis of a standard 14-inch laptop with an NVIDIA RTX series GPU, the latest AMD Ryzen 4000 series processors and an impressive 14-inch 1080P 120Hz refresh display all shoehorned into a chassis that is just 17.9mm thin and weighing just 1.6kg.

These savings in weight are on account of advancements in how they create the chassis with the use of magnesium aluminium alloy for lighter weight while they’ve integrated honeycomb-style structural reinforcements for added strength without compromising on durability.

Zephyrus G14

Ogleworthy? Yes, indeed, but wait, it gets better. Just to troll the competition and to impress your peers, the Zephyrus G14 also has an ace up its sleeve – the rear has an AniMe dot matrix display that lights up to depict anything you want whether it’s a corporate logo or the proverbial finger rendered into sprite form. All this is charged via your choice of either traditional DC or a Type-C port via a 65W power adaptor if you’re handling lighter non-gaming workloads and the laptops come with WiFI 6 (Gig+)

ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 Price, Variants and Availability

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus is available in a variety of configurations. To be specific, ASUS Is shipping in not just one but variants, all at different price points and with slightly different configurations.

Asus ROG Zephyrus G14

Dell Latitude Notebooks – Why they mean business for over 25 years and counting!

Dell Latitude

Notebooks intended for business are a different breed altogether from those intended for mainstream consumers as they have an entirely different emphasis in terms of their form, function and specifications. Notebooks intended for company use also tend to prioritise on security features and a more premium design that’s meant to impress management and clients alike.

While a host of notebook brands have come and gone over the years and a few have carved out some measure of recognition as business laptops, Dell’s Latitude range of convertibles and laptops have been pioneers in the field with close to a quarter of a century – that’s 25 years, mind – of crafting business-optimised gear that enables executives and professionals to get their job done without having to haul around the equivalent of a luggage case and a snake pit of cabling under foot.
Dell latitude

Intended as a light, compact and high-performing laptop for executives, Dell’s current range of Latitude notebooks and 2-in-1s have a host of features that continue to endear them to the suit-and-tie crowd. In Malaysia, you have a variety of Latitude variants, including the 7400 2-in-1 and the newly released Latitude 7410 as well as conventional Latitude laptop form factors too.

Recently, Dell loaned us a test sample of the Latitude 7400 2-in-1 to give it a whirl around the block to experience what the Latitude series was all about and it’s quite an interesting rig indeed. The unit we got packs the best hardware possible though it does not come with many of the listed security features save for a fingerprint reader that comes as standard for units in Malaysia. In terms of hardware, what we got was:

Dell Latitude 7400 2-in-1 Specifications

Display 14-inch Full HD touchscreen touchscreen
Processor Intel Core i7-8565U 2.11GHz
Memory 16GB DDR3 RAM/ 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Class 40 SSD
OS  WIndows 10 Pro
Graphics Intel UHD Graphics 620
Memory 52WHr 4-cell battery
Size/Weight 319.77 x 199.9 x 14.89mm / 1.36kg

As specifications go, these seem a bit lackluster seeing the prevalence of 10th Gen Intel Core processors and a slew of affordable AMD Ryzen 4000 series CPUs making their rounds around the block but the key takeaway here though is that the Latitude series is intended for businesses and large-scale deployment in entire fleets so reliability and the availability of spare parts are also critical factors.

The requirements for a company laptop are different and it’s not so much about the specifications as it is about the additional logistics support, maintenance and security features that Dell has to offer though our test unit did not feature them.

Dell Latitude top

Dell Latitude Build and Design

The latest Latitude lineup offers a level of build quality that matches the premium XPS notebook line; depending on the model, you have a choice of premium carbon fiber or aluminium options.

The use of higher quality materials also means that you get an immensely solid chassis that also proves to be surprisingly compact with a slim form factor to boot. Think of a conventional National Geographic magazine and you get the idea of the size of the top line models such as the Latitude 9000 and 7000 series, which Dell claims to be the smallest premium business PCs in their respective classes.

The premium lineups also come with extra sturdy Corning Gorilla Glass which offers up to 15 times better scratch resistance, twice the resistance to cracks and a 9% reduction in reflections onscreen over the older generation of Gorilla Glass

In terms of connectivity, they’ve added the latest Intel Wi-Fi 6 (Gig+) that delivers nearly 3 times faster speeds and next-gen security in both hardware and software not only to the laptops themselves but also to the neir networks too.

A wide variety of ports and having enough of them is often a key factor for executives which is where the Latitude series retains an edge.

Dell Latitude left side

Case in point – and we are drawing from experience with the previous generation Latitude 7400 2-in-1 that we took for a whirl around the block – connectivity is on point, literally so and ahead of the pack. The right side of the laptop has a 3.5mm audio jack, an SD Card reader, a Kensington lock, a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A port with PowerShare and, interestingly enough, a SIM card tray so you can bung in a card and use it away from WiFi networks and having to tether it to your phone.

Dell Latitude right side

The left side hosts a pair of Thunderbolt 3 USB Type-C ports with Power Delivery and DisplayPort support, a HDMI 1.4 port and a matching USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A port like the right side of the notebook. Talk about overkill, but in a good way.

While it’s not something that’s usually listed in a review, Dell has taken significant effort in ensuring sustainability in all its products, including the packaging and Latitude that we tested. They’ve implemented low VOC waterborne paint on all painted parts and have ensured that 100% of the packaging of the 2-in-1 is recyclable, with material sourced from ocean-bound plastics (25%) and HDPE recycled plastic (75%). To date, Dell has reused more than 100 million pounds of recycled content, plastic and other sustainable materials in new products, achieving its 2020 goal ahead of schedule.

Dell Latitude Performance

Setting up and getting a Latitude up and running required jumping through a few loops, especially if this is a company-issued laptop. In general, they are ideal for mainstream tasks (in some cases, extremely overpowered) like word processing, spreadsheets, email and the like but isn’t intended for video editing or heavier work. It is still capable of tackling retro gaming and mayhaps some recent titles on low 720P settings but that’s not what it was made for in any case. It’s also great for Netflix as flipping it around into display mode lets you prop it up on a desk so you can kick back and enjoy the show. Just don’t let the boss catch you doing it though.

Where the new top line Latitudes shine is the inclusion of what is called Dell Optimizer – a built-in artificial intelligence software that learns and adapts to your work behaviour and tendencies to create a smarter, more personalised and productive user experience.

Dell Latitude

It automatically improves application performance, battery run time and more in the background, so you have fewer disruptions no matter where you’re working. For example, unlocking and gaining access to the notebook is a tad easier with ExpressSign-in – a feature of Dell Optimizer – which combines facial recognition and a proximity sensor to lock the Latitude out if you’re away from the laptop for an extended length of time.

If you step away from your laptop, ExpressSign-in is smart enough to lock out your PC if you’re away on a short errand like making coffee and the like and will unlock it when you’re back at your desk. It’s a nice little extra feature to have and helps to address somewhat the security loophole of unattended laptops.

The convertible version of the Latitudes (read 2-in-1) provides versatility unlike other competing business notebooks, as the double hinges and wide variety of ports let you flip it around into a tablet or display whether you want to show someone a presentation up close over lunch, or hook it up to a large monitor or projector to show your plan for world domination to an entire boardroom.

The question about battery life is also fairly common with expert users – Latitudes are among some of the best on test on account of a built-in feature of Dell Optimizer called ExpressCharge, is able to help you get you up to an 80% charge in an hour. If you can’t charge your system right away, AI willsubtly adjust settings to preserve battery life, such as dimming your screen or turning off Bluetooth when not in use. This realistically gives you a good full working day with extra to last the better part of the next day.

Dell Latitude Available Configurations in Malaysia

As we reported last month, the Latitude 9510 is now available in Malaysia, along with its other siblings in the 9000 and 7000 series family. Designed for mobility and productivity, the new, premium portfolios are equipped with all the latest and greatest tech businesses would need – and even those they didn’t know they did – for their employees to perform their best work.

Joining the Latitude 9510 is its 14-inch sibling – the Latitude 9410 2-in-1 – and the Latitude 7000 series of laptops and 2-in-1s, throughout the 12-, 13- and 14-inch spectrum. All come in a variety of configurations for the Malaysia market depending on how deep you or your company’s IT budget goes. Prices start at slightly below the RM6,000 mark for the Latitude 7410, and can go as high as RM10,000+ for the top of the line Latitude 9510 2-in-1.

The final word on the Latitude series

If you are looking for premium business laptops with superior build and design quality blended with a measure of versatility in terms of ports, form factor options (tablet/display/notebook form factors), performance and battery life, the Latitude series of laptops and 2-in-1s are perfect to tackle any work scenario that a high-flying executive would encounter.

Dell Latitude
It’s refreshing to see Dell constantly refine every generation of the Latitude series with new technologies and features and we are definitely keen to see what they have for their next generation of Latitude devices which we heard will be arriving soon.

Awesome new Asus ExpertBook B9 (B9450) is the world’s lightest 14-inch business laptop at 870g

When you’re a high-flying business professional who has to flit from one power meeting to another, weight is a critical factor. No, we’re not referring to the pounds you pack under your belt.

We’re referring to the kit you have to carry about all day which can weigh quite a fair bit which is why Asus’ spanking new ExpertBook B9 (B9450) comes into the picture as it’s currently the lightest 14-inch business laptop in the world that money can buy.

Asus ExpertBook B9 B9450

The ExpertBook B9 comes in a variety of configurations but at its lightest, weighs a mere 870g while being 14.9mm thin and packing the profile of a sheet of A4 paper which makes it an absolute delight to carry around. These weight savings are achieved on account of the use of magnesium lithium alloy in its construction, which gives it incredible weight savings.

Asus ExpertBook B9 B9450
While it’s light, the laptop is no pushover in the work department as it’s also certified under Intel’s Project Athena, which means it meets their lofty requirements as a business ultraportable for size, connectivity, boot-up times, charging speed, performance and battery life.

Asus ExpertBook B9 B9450 size
In keeping with its emphasis as a business laptop, the ExpertBook B9 is armed for bear on the connectivity front. It has WiFI 6 (802.11ax) connectivity, a pair of Thunderbolt 3 ports, a full sized HDMI port and a bundled dongle that lets you hook up to wired Ethernet.

Ultimately, you can hook up to two external 4K displays via the HDMI port and one of the Thunderbolt ports, which adds volumes to your potential for off-site productivity

It also has an array of business-friendly extras like a shutter on the webcam, a numeric keypad underlay on the touchpad that lets you crunch spreadsheets like a boss and, above all, almost absurd durability with MIL-STD810G grade certification so it’ll take modest drops and survive. Notebooks intended for corporate environments are a different beast entirely from those meant for consumer use with significant security safeguards built in place to protect vital data along with a heap of other features that make managing a fleet of them easier for IT managers.

Dell Latitude 9510 series

The Dell Latitude 9510 comes in both convertible and traditional laptop form factors and are, to date, the smallest and lightest premium 15-inch business laptops in the market. They’re also the first fruits of Intel’s Project Athena, which are a set of standards for vendors for battery life, weight, lightness , responsiveness, connectivity, design and performance, all of which the Latitude 9510 series embodies in every aspect of its being.

On top of their four-sided Infinity Edge displays that offer more screen real estate with slimmer bezels, the new Latitude 9510 series all integrate their Dell Optimizer software that intelligently learns user preferences over time and optimises settings for best performance.

The new Latitude 9510 series also has a ProDeploy feature that enables devices to be shipped straight to companies preconfigured with corporate apps and settings straight from the factory rather than the usual time consuming task of manually configuring them one by one. The series also has a ProSupport feature that offers 24/7 technical support on top of AI-driven notifications to preemptively prevent failures and downtime.

To refresh your memory, the Dell Latitude 9510 series comes with a 15.6-inch FHD touchscreen for the convertible model and a normal 1080P display for the laptop variant. Both versions will have up to 10th Gen Intel Core i7 vPro processors, up to 16GB DDR3 2,133MHz RAM, Intel UHD graphics, up to a 1TB SSD and up to a 256GB self encrypting SSD, are 5G-ready, have up to 34 hours of battery life along with a variety of configurable security options ranging from fingerprint readers, smart card readers and more. According to Dell Malaysia, the Latitude 9510 series will have prices started from RM7,269 with local availability slated for the end of June.

New HONOR MagicBook Pro will come with 10th Gen Intel CPUs and NVIDIA GeForce MX350 graphics from RM3,672

The HONOR MagicBook Pro ultraportable is their latest notebook which will come in two variants that differ based on what processor they use. The hardware under the hood of the MagicBook Pro consists of either a 10th Gen Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB RAM, a 512GB SSD and a new NVIDIA GeForce MX250 graphics card.

The new HONOR Magic Pro also packs a Performance mode by pressing the FN and P key together than overclocks the CPU by 8% and which HONOR claims is able to get any processing or rendering work done faster by 15%.
