BenQ’s THX-certified W8000 and W11000 projectors land in Malaysia

BenQ showcased their latest THX certified projectors – the W8000 and the larger, heftier and more capable W11000 for home use in a press conference where they showed off the capabilities of their hardware that are ideally suited for home cinemaphiles who aim for an authentic cinematic experience in the comfort of their own home.

The BenQ W8000 is THX certified and is able to kick out a 1080P image at 100-inches in size from a distance of about 4.27 metres. An array of five swappable lenses means you can opt for a wide zoom or longer throw zoom lens if you have different needs. The W8000 also has CinematicColour and CinemaMaster tech for precise customisation of colour, gamma, flesh tones, frame rates and other imaging minutiae.

If you’re after something more capable, the BenQ W11000 projector is able to project a 100-inch video in luscious 4K – that’s 3,840 x 2,160 pixel resolution –  at up to 3 metres throw distance though you can ramp this up to a massive 300-inches if you’re aiming to entertain the better part of a rugby team. To ensure crisp 4K video, the W1100 uses a 1.5x zoom, 14-piece lens array that integrates extra low dispersion glass to allow more light to enter the lenses. End result: better sharpness and colours onscreen. To wit, chunking out for the rather substantial asking price means you’re getting the exact precise experience of watching a commercial digital cinema as THX intends it to be. The lamp itself lasts up to 6000 hours in Eco mode while offering a 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. The built-in fan keeps things relatively noise free at 23 dBA. The W1100 has all the usual connectivity options, including an Ethernet LAN port, D-sub, a pai or HDMI ports and a USB mini B port among others. It’s not exactly man-portable though as it’s a hefty 14.8kg.

The W11000 officially retails for RM23,800 but from now till 22 December, you can snag the W11000 for RM18,888 inclusive of installation and a moutning bracket worth Rm1,500 at CMY Audio & Visual Sdn Bhd outlets. The W8000 retails for RM9,999 at Creative AV. For more details swing by www.benq.com.my
