Vainglory update adds 5v5 play and Lunar New Year event

MOBA games remain one of the fastest growing genres in gaming today with more games of its ilk than you can shake a stick at though some have grown to become popular mainstays. Super Evil Megacorp’s Vainglory MOBA for Android and iOS devices is one such game that has grown into its own with a solid roster of characters and an active international competition scene. The latest update for the game has ramped up team sizes to allow for five-on-five matches.

Prior to this, the game capped it at 3vs3. With the addition of 5v5, the game has become tactically deeper as character selection and teamwork become all the more important with the number of possible team roster permutations resulting in very nuanced gameplay. Traditionalists can still opt for 3v3 matches of course.

The 5v5 update also adds a new musical score to the game to enhance the gaming experience. What makes it interesting is that 5v5 mode will dynamically change the track and tempo based on what is happening onscreen which out to make it a more visceral experience. The new score is made by game composer Joris de Man, who has done work on the Killzone franchise and Horizon Zero Dawn.

Just to sweeten the pot, Vainglory is also rolling out a Lunar New Year event from February 15 to February 22 where players can win in-game skins by playing 5v5 mode as well as festively themed skins for Reza and Gwen.

For the uninitiated, Vainglory is built on their proprietary console-grade E.V.I.L game engine, with the engine capable featuring over three million polygons, over 200 animated moving actors and a silky smooth 120 frames per second. The fact that all this is running on a smartphone makes it quite an achievement. The game is available for free download on the Apple app store, the Google Play store and the Amazon appstore.
