Huawei has always been a trailblazer when it comes to tech and since their official team-up with Leica in 2016, they’ve been taking the capabilities of their smartphone cameras to new heights with every new device from their foundries taking a next-generation leap in what they are capable of though their upcoming Huawei P30 series of smartphones may just have people over the moon.

Much in keeping with smartphone launches from the world’s largest triple-A brands, Huawei Global teased on their official Twitter account that the P30 series is coming to the beautiful City of Love – Paris, France this 26 March which about two weeks away. The poster itself is enigmatic but shows a zoomed in shot of the Eiffel Tower from a good distance off. While it could be artistic license, Huawei has confirmed at least one powerful aspect of the cameras in their upcoming P30 series phones via another tempting teaser.

Huawei P30 series shoots for the moon with Richard Yu’s super moon image teaser

During the recent super moon that occurred a few weeks back during the Chap Goh Mei celebrations which happen midway through Chinese New Year, Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Technologies Consumer Business Group released a stunning image of the moon on his Weibo account that shows Earth’s closest neighbour in incredible detail and at a level of zoom that would usually require a professional camera setup.Huawei P30 Pro series on Weibo
Also appearing in the image is a watermark in the lower right corner of the snap, with the words Huawei and Pro along with the Leica and Camera in plain sight. However, a section remains strategically blurred out between them with the model number obscured though part of the word between Leica and Camera is viewable as ‘Qu’. Assuming you fill in the dots, this can infer that the Huawei P30 will come in a standard P30 variant and a larger P30 Pro model and will come with a quad-camera array with truly impressive optical zoom capable of shooting for and capturing the likes of the moon with sufficiently shareworthy detail. That isn’t the only teaser though.

Just after the conclusion of Mobile World Congress 2019 where they showcased their impressive Mate X foldable phone, Bruce Lee, Vice President, Handset Business of Huawei Business Consumer Group released a series of images that show a series of cellphone towers on a building in the distance with a second zoomed in image. There’s no watermark but seeing its provenance, it’s most likely another teaser of the optical zoom capabilities of their P30 series of phones. The quality of the optical zoom is certainly impressive as it retains impressive amounts of detail even with the distances involved.

Huawei’s P series phones build on a legacy of innovation – From Leica to the world’s first triple-lens camera

Innovation doesn’t happen overnight and Huawei’s been steadily investing in their P series flagship phones since they sealed their alliance with Leica back in 2016. Back then, it came as a surprise that one of the most renowned camera brands with a provenance that stretches back to 1914 would be teaming up with one of the world’s fastest growing smartphone brands but the proof was in the pudding with the first fruit of their collaboration in the form of the P9 that introduced a dual camera array that allows for a bokeh image effect – essentially artfully blurring the background while keeping the subject in focus to mimic a professional DSLR camera.

The subsequent successors to the P series line have taken things to the next level with the creation of a triple-camera array paired up with a large primary 40-MP camera in the Huawei P20 Pro that enables smartphone photography that previously would have been considered a pipedream to become a practical reality. Trick shots like images of starscapes in the sky, silky smooth water cascading off a waterfall and even dim low light shots were made possible with the Huawei P20 Pro.

The Huawei P20 Pro was the first phone in the world to be able to capture images at up to 102,400 ISO; something that even the naked eye can’t see on its own. To date, it’s been recognised by the likes of DxOMark, one of the most reputable smartphone camera testers on the planet with an amazing score of 109 points.

Huawei isn’t resting on its laurels though as their next generation Kirin 980 octacore processor and its integrated dual Neural Processing Unit (NPU) which will see service in the upcoming P30 series phones will add the power of AI-photography to the mix, allowing for unprecedented image quality even for novices.

What’s next for the Huawei P series launch in Malaysia? Goodies and freebies of course

While other official details of Huawei’s next-generation P30 series phones are still under wraps ahead of its official reveal on 26 March 2019, what is certain is that Huawei Malaysia usually throws in a ton of amazing freebies with every new smartphone launch. Last year, when the Mate 20 series debuted in October 2018 in Malaysia, Huawei gave out a veritable smorgasbord of tech goodies like Huawei Sound Stones, wireless chargers, DJI Tello drones and even Mate 20 VIP cards with a cool total of over RM10,000.

That’s a staggering amount of goodies for getting a smartphone and if Huawei Malaysia follows the game plan, we’ll likely expect just as or even more amazing freebies and goodies with the launch of the next P series phones in Malaysia. The exact package of freebies has yet to be announced though Huawei did confirm one particularly tempting item that is part of the free bundle for the upcoming P30 series phones. Enter the Huawei Backup.

More storage for movies and photos with a free Huawei Backup for the upcoming P30 series

With a camera that is potentially as powerful as the upcoming Huawei P30 series capable of capturing high quality images and video, it’s safe to assume that users will be taking maximum advantage of it and capturing plenty of both. All those snaps and movies have to go somewhere though and even with huge storage capacities built into smartphones, users inevitably need more which is where Huawei’s swanky looking Huawei Backup comes into the picture.

The Huawei Backup consists of a 1TB hard drive encased in a posh looking circular chassis that lets you backup data on your phone via the USB Type-C port while also doubling up as a fast charger. The magic of the Huawei Backup here is that you needn’t have to fiddle with any settings or install any apps as it automatically backs up all your critical videos, photos, documents and the like. All you have to do is plug any Huawei phone running their EMUI 9.0 user interface including the upcoming P30 series phone into the Huawei Backup and away you go.
Huawei Backup for P30 free bundle

While the P30 series phones have yet to make an official appearance in Malaysia, Huawei is planning to include the Huawei Backup as part of its free bundle offer on top of other as yet to be announced goodies.

Fortunately, we don’t have long to wait to find out what exactly the P30 series has to offer or the exact list of items for its anticipated free bundle for the first wave of buyers.
