Tencent’s new QQ Watch for kids offers peace of mind for parents

If your kids are prone to wandering off or are regularly attempting to do a Houdini on you, you’ll appreciate what China-based Tencent’s new QQ watch for kids is able to offer.

The QQ Watch offers a variety of features for parents for peace of mind in the form of geo tracking and two way communication between a paired phone and the watch.

The watch comes in a very child oriented design in your choice of three bright primary colours: pink, yellow or blue emblazoned with cute cartoony figures on silicone straps.

It’s not a toy though as it comes with a 1.22-inch, 240 x 240 pixel LCD display, a side mounted 0.3-MP camera, built-in wi-fi, gps tracking and is rated IP65 for water resistance.

The sides come with robust rubberised buttons and getting about is by pressing a combination of the three buttons dispersed around the device. The underside of the watch has a screw on nano SIM card slot to prevent casual removal.

The QQ Watch, once paired to a phone, allows parents to remotely activate the camera, track the watch via GPS and allows for walkie-talkie style conversation, one-way listening from the parent’s side and two-way comms from the parent. It also has built-in fitness tracking, has geo fencing functionality and the ability to refuse calls from unrecognised numbers.

Charging it is via the provided magnetic dock with the provided 400mAh battery providing five days of battery life before needing a juicing.

The QQ watch is now available in Malaysia at Watson’s, Popular bookstores and eventually other retailers for RM569. For one month starting from launch, you can snag it at a promotional price of RM499. For more details swing by their official site at www.iqqwatch.com though you’ll need Google Translate to get the gist of it as it’s still in Chinese. More updates as we receive them.
