Oppo has finally taken the wraps off their F1 camera phone today in a launch event in Kuala Lumpur. The F1 has an all-metal aluminium unibody chassis done up in a burnished gold finish with a front 5-inch 720P display sheathed with 2.5D glass and Gorilla Glass 4.

The hardware clocks in at the higher end of a midrange phone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 octacore processor, 3GB RAM and 16GB of expandable onboard storage with a microSD card slot that supports up to 128GB cards. The phone runs Android Lollipop 5.1 overlaid with Oppo’s own updated ColorOS 2.1 UI that has an array of gesture shortcut commands and has updates to include Dirac audio tech support for better audio quality. ColorOS 2.1 also has battery optimisation tech to extend battery life.

Oppo F1 Sides

The flanks of the Oppo F1 are finished in metal with buttons made of the same material as the chassis for a consistent feel and look.

The rear 13-MP camera notably comes with an ISOCELL sensor of Samsung origin that appeared in last year’s Galaxy S5. The camera also has phase detection autofocus with a 0.1 second autofocus time and an f/2.2 lens. Like the Asus ZenFone Zoom launched earlier this month, the F1 has an Ultra HD mode that is able to stack four multiple shots to create a single large 50-MP snap and the phone is able to take RAW snaps. The other modes include a Super Macro mode, HDR, a slow shutter and a rather unusual Super GIF mode that lets you take short animated snippets.

The front-facing 8-MP selfie camera has an f/2.0 lens and a number of selfie focused modes. A Beautify 3.0 mode that does the usual when taking self portrait shots like removing blemishes and the like while the camera also supports capturing images via voice commands, a countdown or via a hand gesture. Videos are clocked in at 1080P for the rear camera and 720P for the front camera.

The F1 also has dual 4G SIM card slots and a 2,500mAh non removable battery. The phone will retail for RM1,198 when it hits their online store tomorrow and if you are the first 200 to buy it, Oppo will throw in a selfie stick on the house.
