OPPO A83 selfie camphone arriving in Malaysia this January

OPPO is ringing in the new year with the launch of a new entry level smartphone with selfie-oriented hardware  in Malaysia designated as the A83. The new OPPO A83 was launched in China sometime last year in December and earlier this week in India with availability in Malaysia slated for 23 January 2018.

The phone comes with a 5.7-inch HD+ LCD panel with 1,440 x 720 pixel resolution up front and an 18:9 aspect ratio. The A83 will run Android Nougat 7.1 overlaid with their own ColorOS 3.2 user interface on a MediaTek MT6763 2.5GHz octacore processor and feature 32GB of storage. It’s undetermined as yet how much RAM the phone will have as versions from China had 4GB RAM while those released in India had 3GB RAM. Storage is expandable via a hybrid SIM card.

The rear comes with a 13-MP camera f/2.2 paired with an LED flash and an 8-MP selfie f/2.2 camera is perched up front. The front camera also has OPPO’s AI Beauty tech that intelligently beautifies subjects based on age and gender while tracking some 128 geometrical facial points to optimise the outcome. The phone also seems to lack a fingerprint reader and instead relies on Face Unlock as well as the aforementioned facial recognition tech to unlock the phone which is something of a pleasant surprise for an entry level device. Powering the whole affair is a 3,180mAh battery.

There’s no word on official prices but the phone retails at about CND1,339 ( about RM 818) in China so prices of the phone in Malaysia should not fall far from the proverbial tree. Hit up the official http://oppostore.com.my/ next week on 23 January to find out more about the final official price of OPPO’s new phone, what colours will be available for the Malaysia market and more.
