Official Galaxy S9 teaser videos hint at powerful camera capabilities

It’s less than two weeks to Mobile World Congress 2018 and the anticipated launch of the Galaxy S9 and its sibling the S9+ and leaks aplenty in the wild have hinted at what Samsung’s upcoming flagship phones look like and what’s under the hood. The latest series of official teaser videos provide tantalising clues on what the Galaxy S9 series phone cameras are capable of.

Prior to this, leaked renders have appeared in the wild along with other details including early teaser shots of the accessories that accompanied it like the Dex Pad dock along with stills that hint at the rear cameras capabilities. Now, we’ve gotten our closest look yet at what the Galaxy S9 and S9+ cameras are capable of as Samsung Mobile Korea released three videos on YouTube, each of them featuring enigmatically emblazoned footage of a number 9, the launch date – 25 February 2018 and also showing an aspect of the Galaxy S9 series’ camera. It is not indicated if these videos are shot with the S9 but if they are, they certainly look impressive.

The first video shows a series of fast moving objects – cheetahs, skydivers and the like with an unusual 9-second slowdown near the end of the footage that possibly hints at the rumoured slow-motion capabilities of the Galaxy S9 series camera.

The second video shows a series of clips in low light conditions and is likely showcasing the S9’s camera capabilities to capture detaied images under challenging lighting scenarios.

The third video shows a series of self-portrait videos with the ending showing a male subject with an animated emoji-style face at the last few seconds. This is perhaps the strongest hint that the S9 series will pack some form of animated emoji functionality. This feature is something that goes toe to toe with Apple’s animated Animoji on their iPhone X.

The biggest hint as to what the Galaxy S9 series phones and its cameras are capable of comes from Carlo Barlocco, the President of Samsung Italy who shared a teaser video on Twitter which hints more at the Galaxy S9’s capabilities in low light, capturing fast-moving objects and, interestingly, the ability to integrate animated emoji into a video or Facebook live feed on the fly. This exact video has since been disseminated to Samsung Mobile’s Facebook page as well.

All these videos only make the Galaxy S9 series phones one of the most anticipated devices for MWC 2018 and we only have just a few days to wait for their official launch.  For more on what details on what we know of the Galaxy S9 so far, swing by here.
