The new ASUS ZenFone 4 family leaks ahead of launch

It is less than 48 hours from the official announcement of the ZenFone 4 and all of its sister phones by Asus. Now, it seems that a good chunk of what they’re aiming to showcase has already been leaked with listings for not only the ZenFone 4 but three other sister devices under the marque from their French website. To date, they’ve pulled out all the stops to ensure that the upcoming launch is their grandest one ever with the likes of South Korean superstar Gong Yoo, best known for being in the zombie-laden smash hit Train to Busan and K-drama Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, gracing the upcoming event in Taipei this 17 August on Thursday.

According to WinFuture and Android Police, the four phones are dubbed the ZenFone 4, the Zenfone 4 Selfie, the Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro and the ZenFone 4 Max. Unfortunately, they’ve pulled the site but several images and the specs have, as you’d surmise from appearing on the Internet, been retained in Google cache.

The leading flagship ZenFone 4 has a circular metallic finish akin to its earlier predecessors and has a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 630 processor, a,3,300mAh battery, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. Like the ZenFone 3 Zoom before it, the ZenFone 4 has a dual rear camera array with a 12-MP paired up to an 8-MP camera. Before the site went offline, the ZenFone 4 was listed as coming with a price tag of €499 which translates to about RM2,509.

The ZenFone 4 Selfie looks like it is designed as a narcissist’s delight with a 5.5-inch IPS HD 720P display, a Snapdragon 430 processor paired with 4GB RAM, 64GB of expandable storage and a 3,000mAh battery to keep it running. Unlike the ZenFone 4, the ZenFone 4 Selfie swaps the dual rear camera array to the front with a 20-MP camera riding shotgun next to an 8-MP camera for some presumably impressive selfies with a 16-MP camera taking up the rear. The price tag was listed as €299.99 which works out to around RM1,511 with change.

Also revealed is an upgunned sibling to the ZenFone 4 Selfie dubbed the ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro that looks somewhat similar externally but packs some heftily upgraded hardware and a price tag to match. It beefs up the 5.5-inch display to a Full HD AMOLED display, has a matching amount of RAM at 4GB with 64GB of expandable storage, trades in the Snapdragon 430 for a Snapdragon 625 processor like that seen on the ZenFone 3 Zoom and the front dual camera setup has been upgunned to a 24-MP and 5-MP array. The rear has a presumably similar 16-MP camera. The price tag clocks in to €399.99 which is approximately RM2,501; a full grand up from the ZenFone Selfie.

Last but not least, the ZenFone 4 Max looks like the heir to their entry level line that prioritises battery life. It has a 5.2-inch HD screen, a Snapdragon 425 octacore processor, 3GB RAM paired with 32GB of expandable storage, a front 8-MP camera and a rear dual 13-MP and 5-MP camera along with a 4,100mAh battery. Given the modest screen resolution and the processor, this ought to grant the phone exceptional endurance in the field. The price tag itself €229.99, which is about RM1,158 that puts it just over entry level territory.

The overall line-up looks promising indeed. It covers the bases for most of the demographics that Asus targets with not one but two devices for prolific selfie snappers, an entry level phone with enhanced battery life and a sound workhorse flagship leading the line-up. While the prices leaked give a rough idea on their price tag, local Malaysian prices may veer away from that on account of exchange rates, taxes and whatnot though it’ll likely be slightly on the pricier side. There’s not long more to wait with the official launch just around the corner though anything can change up until the curtains go up.
