ECS ICT Berhad today took the wraps off two new devices from DJI – the Mavic Pro drone and the Osmo Mobile smartphone gimbal in a launch today in Malaysia.

The Mavic Pro has a range of 7km with a maximum speed of 40mph. The Drone has a nose-mounted 12.35-MP camera that captures snaps in JPEG or PNG and 4K@30fps video in MP4, or H.264.

Internally, it packs VPS, GPS+GLONASS as well as precision landing tech. Before it takes off it takes a quick shot of the ground to understand its landing zone so that when it returns it doesn’t  prang itself when it lands. The drone also has an obstacle avoidance warning system to detect incoming obstacles even when flying at 36kph though you can optionally disable it in Sports mode if you’re aiming to use it for drone racing.

The Mavic Pro also has a number of interesting modes. A new terrain follow mode follows the terrain for those sweeping Discovery Channel scenery shots. A Spotlight mode circles around and tracks a target. A Gesture mode lets you do a ‘framing’ gesture with your hands and it then captures a snap on demand. The controller itself, dubbed the OcuSync mimics a game controller with a clamp for your phone which acts as a display for the drone with a readout that gives you flight data at a glance. You can also opt to control the drone directly via your smartphone though with a more limited range. An integrated 3,830mAh battery keeps it powered for up to 27 minutes while retaining a modest 743g total payload with the size of a 500ml water bottle when folded down. The Mavic Pro retails for RM4,556.94 inclusive of GST and the remote controller. Those keen to get extras can go for a package that adds in additional gear like quick release folding propellers, a battery charging hub, a car charger, a battery to power bank adaptor and a shoulder bag. The Movic Pro Fly More combo costs RM5,934.94 inclusive of GST.

While many flagship phones today have optical image stabilisation, the Osmo Mobile gimbal takes it a step further and offers absurdly smooth video footage once it clamps onto your smartphone. The whole affair weighs just 300g and the 980mAh battery keeps it powered for a couple of hours of video footage while the clamp accepts almost any current model of smartphone. The Osmo Mobile also has a panoramic shot mode and several tracking modes and pairs up with your phone via the DJI GO app for iOS or Android. The OSMO Mobile retails for RM1,376.94 inclusive of GST. Both products will be available at all authorised ECS dealers nationwide.
