There’s something innately satisfying when you see a well built town or base that you’ve crafted with your own (virtual) hands ticking along nicely on its own. The Settlers series scratched that itch in an effective fashion as the game has you building up your own town and expanding it to become a glorious city. Now, you get to take a walk down memory lane as Ubisoft has remastered every single one of the Settlers series games to run on modern PCs in the Settlers History collection.
Originally developed by Bluebyte and created by one Volker Wertich, The Settlers first debuted in 1993 and has come up with six subsequent sequels for a total of seven games in the series with the last one release 8 years ago. Ubisoft has taken all seven games and remastered them with tweaks to run smoothly on Windows 10 with multiplayer via Uplay and has made them all available for sale as a bundle dubbed the Steelers History Collection. Each game can also be purchased individually on Uplay.
They’re a far cry from the real time strategy games that dominate the market today but their sedate relaxed affair and their rewarding long term strategic gameplay makes them well worth a whirl down memory lane.
