The Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro is a lot of phone for RM499

Not everyone needs a state of the art phone that looks like a sports car and can do everything under the sun including your banking. Sometimes, all you need is a workhorse that does the job but which does not cost a bomb which is where Samsung’s new Galaxy J2 Pro comes into the picture.

Externally, the Galaxy J2 Pro harkens back to Samsung’s earlier design aesthetics with a front-facing home button and large side bezels along with a polycarbonate casing in your choice of four colours – black, blue, gold and pink.

The Galaxy J2 Pro has a 5-inch qHD Super AMOLED display, runs Android Nougat 7.1 on a Snapdragon 524 1.4GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB RAM and 16GB of expandable memory. The rear camera has an 8-MP sensor with an f/2.2 aperture while the front has a 5-MP selfie camera. The phone is charged by a microUSB port and powered by a 2,600mAh battery.

In terms of value, the phone has quite a bit going for it. For under half a grand, you’re getting a crisp Super AMOLED panel which offers more vibrant hues over mainstream LCD displays.

Other improvements are firmware related with their Secure Folder option to keep content in a separate encrypted partition and the option to maintain dual social media accounts simultaneously on the phone. Not bad for RM499.
