There’s something irresistable about the experience of catching a movie in the cinemas. The buttery smell of popcorn, the anticipation and the inevitable deluge of commercials before the movie proper and, alas, cushy seats. Less memorable however are the inevitable sods who use their phones at the top of their voices right in the middle of the movie or queue if you’re looking to view a blockbuster like Captain Marvel fresh out of the box office. That’s where something like Epson’s new pair of cinema projectors dubbed the EH-TW7400 and the EH-TW9400 come into the picture that aim to bring in a 4K PRO-UHD cinematic experience straight into your home.
Both PRO UHD projectors use Epson’s vaunted 4K PRO-UHD tech which is an enhanced version of their pixel-shifting resolution enhancement tech to essentially create a 4K image onscreen along with excellent colour reproduction.
Both projectors also use a 12-bit digital colour processing chip with frame interpolation and Epson’s own Advanced Motion Control algorithm to ensure minimal ghosting or pixelation in fast-moving action scenes and the like.
Where they differ is in terms of contrast ratio and HDR format support with the EH-TW7400 offer mainstream HDR10 and a 200,000:1 contrast ratio as well as 2,400lm colour light output.
The EH-TW9400 upguns this with additional Hybrid Log Gamma and 4K/60P HDR with 18GBps support, a higher 2,600lm colour light output as well as a much higher 1,200,000:1 contrast ratio along with a commensurately higher price tag at RM14,919 while the EH-TW7400 retails at RM9,800.
Both projectors offer the usual gamut of mounting options including ceiling mounts so it’ll fit most potential home cinema setups. Both the Epson 4K EH-TW7400 and EH-TW9400 P4K PRO-UHD projectors will be available nationwide from mid-April in Malaysia. For more details swing by www.epson.com.my
