Disconnect Pro privacy protector for iPhone and Samsung phones is now free for a week
If you’re puttering around on the Internet, it comes as a given that whatever you and everywhere you go online will be tracked in some form or fashion. Unless you’re somewhat savvy about protecting your privacy, which does involve jumping through some elaborate hoops, you’re basically up the creek with no paddle though this handy mobile app helps to do it in a surprisingly efficient fashion.
Disconnect Pro helps to filter out invasive trackers: both the obvious ones and the more sinister invisible ones and malware too when you’re using browsers and apps on your phone. The good part is that the app works across all applications and browsers, not just when you’re using a specific one. Trimming out all the digital dead weight is kind of like the equivalent of dumping dead ballast off a hot air balloon: you get to go higher and faster. The end result is that pages load up to 44% faster and your bandwidth is reduced by 39%.
The app usually costs US$40 (about RM165) but from now until September 28, you can download it for free on Samsung devices via the Galaxy Apps store or on iOS devices via the iTunes App store. Once you’ve downloaded it, it’s tied to your account and it’s free forever. There’s some minor caveats of course – compatible Samsung devices need to run Knox 2.6 or higher – this effectively covers current gen devices like the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.
