ASUS launches Malaysia’s first ROG concept store plus sneak peek at massive GX800 gaming rig

ASUS Malaysia today officially launched their first Republic of Gamers concept store at Lowyat Plaza, Malaysia that allows enthusiasts to field test and purchase the latest ASUS gaming hardware. 20160926_105709Located next to the KFC restaurant on the ground floor of Lowyat Plaza, the ROG concept store has four gaming stations where gamers can play with ASUS’ latest gaming rigs and purchase them onsite. The new concept store also stocks a range of ASUS’ gaming accessories as well like mouse devices and headphones.

One particularly interesting surprise on display at the launch was a first look at their massive GX800 gaming rig. The successor to the earlier GX700, the GX800 is even heavier and more powerful than ever before.

In terms of hardware, the GX800 comes with an 18.4-inch UHD IPS Gsync panel, a 4.2GHz Intel Skylake Core i7 processor, 64GB DDR4 RAM, a 1.5TB NVMe SSD with a RAID0 configuration and two top-of-the-line NVIDIA GTX1080 GPUs, which currently makes it one of the most powerful rigs on the planet. To keep this behemoth cooled, the GX800 has a water cooled Hydro Overclocking Station that vents 500W of heat when docked to the GX800.

The keyboard on the GX800 has been beefed up for gaming as well and sports Cherry MX blue keys. All this goodness means that the GX800 weighs a whopping 5.7kg and needs its own custom suitcase with foam insert cut-outs to haul around. There’s no price tag yet for the GX800 and the unit displayed is an engineering sample so the specs may change before it sees release though we’ll let you know once they’ve firmed up the price tag, specs and launch date for ASUS’ most powerful gaming rig yet.
